Promotion Criteria:

For promotion to 10th grade the student must have a minimum of 6 credits
For promotion to 11th grade the student must have a minimum of 12 credits
For promotion to 12th grade the student must have a minimum of 18 credits

To successfully graduate each student must have:
  • 25 credit hours
  • 40 hours of community service
  • Passed a driver’s education course
  • Passed the Constitution examination
  • Passed the consumer education examination
The Social Justice High School staff and community strongly believes in working to ensure every student passes every class.  However, if a student has not passed the minimum credit requirement for promotion, that student will not receive a new I.D., class standing, or privileges associated with the next grade.  The school will place that student on academic probation which prohibits them from participating in sport activities.  Students on academic probation will go through an intensive mediation process involving staff, the student, the student’s families, and social services.  Each student on academic probation will create a plan with their academic advisor and family to receive promotion to the next grade.  Plans will include deciding if a student needs to repeat a grade, class, attend summer school or evening school.

Grading Procedure

Each student will receive a final grade for each semester.  Students can receive an A, B, C, D or F (no credit).  Students will receive formal reports eight times a year.  Formal reports will always be mailed to the student’s address.  However, students and parents should expect to receive informal reports biweekly from teachers, as well as having access to our internet site with live grades.

Grading Description in Classes

Each subject will offer ten learning outcomes each semester to students. Students are responsible for successfully meeting the requirements for each outcome. These requirements are products of student work, or learning behaviors. For example, one outcome in the Freshmen year is that students will write a personal narrative. Students must demonstrate through different assessments (quizzes, writing samples, artwork, etc.) that they have met that outcome. Each outcome allows teachers to make the expectations extremely clear through the use of rubrics. Teachers, students, and families will know exactly what is expected in the classroom for the student to succeed. If a student does not successfully complete seven out of ten learning outcomes for the class the student will have one semester to meet with that teacher to change the "Not Yet" into a passing grade of C. By week 18 of the next semester if a student has not made up a "Not Yet" that student will receive an F in the course and have to re-take the entire class. Thus, students must take responsibility for their own learning.
